ESME Courses at AMEE 2022

We're thrilled to be able to offer a range of in-person ESME courses at this year's conference, for the first time since 2019. ESME courses aim to provide health professions educators with the ‘essential skills’ required by their roles, and focus on supplying broadly transferrable educational principles which can be interpreted and applied by practitioners in their own contexts. 

 

 

 

 

 

ESME Courses at AMEE 2022

Course participants must register for AMEE 2022 and pay the in-person registration fee (for the Online ESCPD course which does not take place on the conference days, participants may select either to join AMEE 2022 in-person in Lyon or online).

Courses offered at AMEE 2022 – to be held at Lyon Congress Centre 
 

 

Essential Skills in Medical Education - ESME 

Faculty: Stewart Mennin (Mennin Consulting, Sao Paulo, Brazil, Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA); Ruy Souza (Federal University of Roraima, Brazil); Regina Petroni Mennin (Federal University of Sao Paulo, Brazil) 

Overview: Provides participants with a strong foundation in the basic competencies required of the medical and healthcare professions teacher: the Skilled Educational Planner, the Effective Teacher and the Informed Assessor/Evaluator. This highly interactive course looks at how people learn and the range of teaching, learning and assessment methods and opportunities available to the teacher.  

Sessions: Full day 27 and 28 August; lunch sessions 29, 30 and 31 August during AMEE 2022 

 

 

ESME-CT – Essential Skills in Clinical Teaching Course 

Faculty: Subha Ramani, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, USA; James Kwan, Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Singapore; Harish Thampy, University of Manchester, UK; Mini Singh, University of Manchester, UK; Jean E. Klig, Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA 

Overview: Provides participants with a solid foundation in core knowledge and skills needed to teach effectively in clinical settings, informed by educational theories and available evidence. In acknowledgment of the complexity of clinical teaching, the course will employ a non-prescriptive and reflective approach to improve teaching.  

Sessions: Full day 27 August; lunch sessions 29 and 30 August during AMEE 2022 

 

 

 

ESMELead – Essential Skills in Leadership Course 

Faculty: Judy McKimm, Paul Jones (Swansea University, Swansea, UK), Kirsty Forrest, Jo Bishop (Bond University, Gold Coast, Australia), Greg Radu (St Clare’s Hospital, St John’s, Newfoundland, Canada) 

Overview: An introduction to key aspects of leadership and management for healthcare educators who wish to develop a deeper understanding of leadership and management theory and gain an evidence base to help them become more effective leaders. The Course is theory informed, practice driven, context specific, highly interactive, supportive and fun.  

Sessions: Full day 27 August; lunch sessions 29, 30 and 31 August during AMEE 2022 

  

 

 

ESCEL – Essential Skills in Computer-Enhanced Learning Masterclass 

Faculty: David A. Cook & Elissa R. Hall, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science, Rochester, USA 

Overview: How to design, facilitate, and evaluate learning experiences that leverage computers, tablets, smartphones, and similar devices to address learner and program needs. In this highly-interactive course we will explore the integration of evidence-based instructional strategies with a range of technologies. 

Session: Full day 27 August  

Course held entirely online 

 

 

ESCPD – Essential Skills in Continuing Education and Professional Development – ONLINE ONLY 

Faculty: Jane Tipping (University of Toronto, Canada); Suzan Schneeweiss (University of Toronto, Canada); Helena Filipe (University of Lisbon, Portugal); Amy Wolfe (Small is Mighty Co Johannesburg, South Africa)  

Overview: Provides participants with a global appreciation of current Best Practices in CPD, the evidence and theory informing effective CPD, and practical approaches to current issues within the field.  

Sessions:  Course will consist of interactive Zoom webinars (23 and 24 August; 7 September; 4 October) and no face-to-face sessions are included.
